FAQs

How do solar lights work?

The electric energy is obtained by the solar-cells during daylight and is stored in the energy storage device (battery). The stored energy is then used for the lighting during the night. The battery is installed within the light pole. A programmable microcontroller monitors the charging condition of the battery.

What are the advantages of solar lights?

Solar lights offer three main advantages:

  • Economic efficiency
  • No cabling
  • Eco-friendliness

Solar lights generate environment-friendly energy and assure an independent and continuous power supply. In numerous locations solar lights definitely offer a contemporary, economical, resource- and environment-friendly alternative to conventional exterior lighting systems. Furthermore a substantial contribution to climate protection is made. During the life expectancy of each hei solar light™, remarkable 2 tons of CO2-emissions are avoided. hei solar light™ guarantees minimal planning efforts and a simple and trouble-free installation.

What is so special about hei solar light™?

The product family hei solar light™ offers unrivaled advantages as far as functionality and design is concerned. The photovoltaics are perfectly integrated into the solar light allowing an outstanding and forward-looking design. A highly modern battery- and a high-efficiency LED-technology guarantee unique functionality and operation reliability even in winter and during longer periods of bad weather conditions.

The exceptional advantages of hei solar light™ are as follows:

  • a patented photovoltaic-module-technology
  • innovative design
  • the intelligent electronic system assures high reliability in operation even during winter and longer periods of bad weather conditions
  • highly efficient LED-technology and powerful photovoltaics provide extraordinary high illuminance

What are the typical locations for installing hei solar light™?

hei solar light™ operates trouble-free especially in Central Europe and in southern regions. hei solar light™ perfectly suits the requirements of:

  • streets in housing areas
  • pavements, bicycle paths
  • squares, promenades
  • green areas
  • pedestrian areas
  • bus and tram stops
  • driveways to houses and garages
  • gardens
  • hotel complexes
  • shopping centers
  • exhibition centers
  • industrial plants
  • golf courses
  • golf courses
  • swimming pools
  • sports facilities
  • amusement parks
  • alpine regions
  • emergency lighting systems (escape routes for exteriors, etc.)

In which locations is it not advisable to install hei solar light™?

hei solar light™ is dependent on the presence of sunlight, which means that locations providing very poor lighting conditions (e.g. locations underneath bridges, in forests and locations with intense fog in winter) are not suitable. It is also not advisable to install hei solar light™ in locations, where long hours of high illuminance are expected by the customer during strong winters. Conflict areas, such as road networks or crossroads in Central Europe set constraints to an installation of solar lights. In southern regions with shorter nights and sufficient sunlight even during winter, the solar light can indeed be used for high-ranking road networks.

How efficient is hei solar light™?

hei solar light™ is equipped with high-efficiency LEDs providing a power of 12 to 72 Watt. The remarkable light yield of the LEDs (up to 7,200 Lumen) equates to a conventional light bulb with 700 to 800 Watt. Hence, an area of 100 to 300 sqm can easily be illuminated with 40 lx.

How long is an operation of hei solar light™ guaranteed without the presence of sunlight?

hei solar light™ is provided with a powerful energy storage device and an intelligent electronic system. After days with no or barely any sunlight the programmable microcontroller dims the brightness in order to reduce the energy consumption and to assure a trouble-free operation. Thereby longer periods of bad weather conditions without direct sunlight of up to 10 consecutive days can be easily bypassed.

How many hours of sunshine does hei solar light™ require?

The more sunlight - the merrier. In order to guarantee a trouble-free operation, the solar light should have at least 1 to 2 hours of direct sunlight on average per day. This means sunny weather is not necessary every day. Even in periods of 10 consecutive days without direct sunlight functionality is guaranteed. However, the solar light is dependent on the presence of sunlight meaning every couple of days a sunny day is required to assure a high-performance operation.

Do solar lights work in shady locations?

Yes, admittedly with constraints. The solar light must not be positioned in the shade for the entire day (an installation at the north side of a house is not advisable). Partial shading is definitely no problem. The brightness of the solar light is adjusted to the insolation of the specific location, which means the brightness is accordingly dimed during the night. As a guideline and depending on the geographical location, the solar light should have at least 1 to 2 hours of direct sunlight on average each day.

What happens during longer periods of bad weather conditions?

During longer periods of bad weather conditions (resulting in a poor charging condition of the battery) hei solar light™ switches to the energy-saving mode. That means, the brightness of the light is dimed and adjusted to the charging condition. Therewith a trouble-free operation during longer periods of bad weather conditions is guaranteed. In this case the solar light works reliably under dimed illuminance. The regulation of the solar light and of the energy management is monitored by a microcontroller, built in the light pole.

Is hei solar light™ economical?

Yes indeed! The installation of hei solar light™ in numerous locations guarantees a tremendous cost-effective alternative to conventional lighting solutions, due to comparative calculations. hei solar light™ reduces electricity costs and no costs for cabling and rearrangement of surfaces are necessary. Due to the long life expectancy of the LEDs, minimal maintenance costs arise.

What are the customer benefits in specific?

hei solar light™ offers a wide range of benefits for the customer. This solar light is highly economical due to the reduction of electricity costs and worldwide outstanding in terms of the unique and trend-setting eco-design. hei solar light™ is self-sufficient and therefore offers an attractive alternative for lighting systems in locations, where no power supply is provided.

Are there any maintenance costs?

The installation of hei solar lightTM assures a substantial reduction in operating and maintenance costs. The illuminant is arranged closely and requires no regular servicing (cleaning of the interior for example). The LEDs provide a very long life expectancy. Furthermore LEDs hardly emit any UV-light, therefore do not attract insects. A battery is used as energy storage device, which has to be replaced every 5 to 7 years (according to the supplier's specification).

What are the advantages of LEDs?

LEDs rank among the most economical illuminants. The high-efficiency hei power leds provide an extremely long life expectancy and a high light yield resulting in minimised maintenance works. Furthermore LEDs hardly emit any UV-light, therefore do not attract insects resulting in minimal cleaning services.

Is the LED-technology fully developed?

Yes indeed! LEDs are very reliable in operation and provide an extremely long life expectancy. The first LEDs were developed in the 1960s and have been under permanent further development ever since. The light yield of the LEDs today amounts to 100 Lumen/Watt and more.

How long is the lifetime of hei solar light™?

The high-quality constituent parts of hei solar light™ guarantee a trouble-free operation. As manufacturer we guarantee an operation of 20 years for our hei power tube.

Does hei solar light™ allow customer-specific and project-oriented lighting solutions?

The modular design of the product family hei solar light™ allows individual specifications as far as design and functionality is concerned. The solar lights can easily be adjusted to various design specifications, technological requirements and climatic conditions of different locations.
